My father in law is an alcoholic but he won’t acknowledge the fact.  It is so frustrating, he thinks that because he only drinks in the evening he is not an alcoholic.  He gets very shirty if you suggest that he has a drink problem and he has no interest whatsover in recovering from alchohol addiction.  When he is sober, he is great fun but my goodness what a Jeckyll and Hide character he is when he is on the drink.  One moment he is a normal pleasant person and the next he vents this tirade at  whoever happens to be in the firing line.
